One tree. One story

THE AMAZING SLIDESHOW ADDON!

Cofounder
Mihaela

We moved to the countryside a year ago, after closing a chapter in the beauty industry. For our children, we chose freedom and health. Here we’re building a green oasis and, through the art of bonsai, a lifestyle as close to nature as possible.

THE AMAZING SLIDESHOW ADDON!

Cofounder
Cosmin

The tranquility of life in the countryside has set my priorities. Throughout this project, I’ve learned, step by step, the facets of a small business and, just as importantly, the daily care of plants. Bonsai has taught me patience, observation, and consistency: proper watering, timely fertilization, and pruning and wiring done with purpose.

Patience and Perseverance.
Created with Care.

The Founders Sakura Bonsai

“At Sakura Bonsai, it’s just us - Cosmin and Mihaela. We do the hands-on work: we plant, care for, and style bonsai, try classic styles, and honor the principles of Japanese art. We’re just starting out, but we’re consistent. We leave our mark on every project and add personal touches without losing the essence. If you’d like to see how a small project grows, you’re welcome to follow along!”

Bonsai is the Japanese art of cultivating miniature trees in containers, but its origins lie in ancient China, where the technique of miniaturizing trees (known as penjing) was practiced as early as around 700 CE. This tradition was adopted in Japan during the Middle Ages (the Kamakura period) and developed under the influence of Zen Buddhism, with the Japanese creating their own styles and cultivation techniques. Bonsai was first presented in Europe at the Paris Exposition Universelle in 1878, causing a true sensation among Western horticulture enthusiasts.

The Spirit of Patience

Growing Bonsai

Heritage

Heritage

Bonsai blends horticulture with Japanese aesthetics. The practice fosters patience, restraint, and respect for nature; bonsai is both a refined art and a personal discipline.

Investment

Investment

Bonsai can also be an investment: older, award-winning pieces with Japanese provenance can fetch high prices; they require expertise, constant care and insurance and plenty of patience.

Benefits

Benefits

A bonsai can bring tangible benefits: just looking at a bonsai is associated with increased parasympathetic activity and reduced prefrontal cortex activity; hands-on interaction with plants reduces physiological and psychological indicators of stress compared with a computer task; and therapeutic horticulture has a significantly positive effect on mental health.
