Akadama Substrate (Ibaraki), Small Grain (0–3 mm)
Ibaraki Akadama Hard Soil for Bonsai
Natural and reliable, Ibaraki Akadama Hard is a premium Japanese granular clay, valued for its ideal balance between water retention and root aeration. The porous granules support the development of a rich mass of fine roots and healthy growth, offering excellent control over watering.
Mined and selected in Ibaraki Prefecture (Japan), the Hard grade retains its structure longer, better withstanding wet–dry cycles and compaction. The substrate remains stable, with consistent drainage, reducing the risk of waterlogging and root rot.
The granules lighten in color as they dry, providing visual feedback for watering. It can be used as a 100% substrate or as a base in modern mixes (pumice, lava, kiryu), tailored to species and climate.
